Same-sex wedding , or wedding between two people of the same sex, is the possibility for a couple of two women or two men to enter into a civil or religious wedding. In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to institute same-sex wedding. As of 2021, it is legal in 29 states worldwide. The Church of Sweden and a few other religious movements also recognize religious wedding between two people of the same sex.
LEGALIZATION OF SAME-SEX WEDDING
In France, same-sex wedding was legalized in May 2013. Of the 29 states where it is a right, 19 are in Europe. The most recent country to legalize same-sex wedding worldwide was Switzerland on September 26, 2021. Significant legalization projects worldwide are in Andorra, Chile, Mexico, the Czech Republic, and Thailand. In Israel, same-sex unions are legal, and wedding established abroad are recognized. In Japan, in July 2019, Ibaraki Prefecture became the first Japanese prefecture to legally recognize same-sex unions, with the same rights as married couples. While same-sex unions are legally recognized in a limited number of countries, the act of celebrating a symbolic same-sex wedding may be permitted in those that have not yet legalized the practice.
THE HISTORY OF GAY WEDDING
Throughout history, same-sex wedding have occurred, particularly in Greco-Roman culture. For example, in ancient Greece, men generally engaged in relationships with both sexes. Many Roman emperors also had homosexual relationships, and some married their lovers.
The emergence of Christianity led to a decline in these practices. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Church condemned same-sex wedding because they did not allow procreation, but some movements tolerated same-sex relationships.
Outside the West, existing documents attest that in certain cultures in the Americas, Asia, and Africa, homosexual relationships and even same-sex wedding existed. Some accounts by European explorers mention homosexual relationships in particular.

Fortunately, same-sex wedding is being celebrated in more and more countries. But what about the wedding ceremony ?
